Light and fluffy, these Baked Turmeric Oatmeal Banana Donuts are a perfect option for a sweet breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up. They pack well in lunchboxes and can easily be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container. Gluten-free, refined sugar-free, and vegan, they are the perfect allergy-free treat that is school ground friendly.

    Baked Turmeric Oatmeal Banana Donuts

These donuts are super easy to make and are always a big hit.

Naturally sweetened with maple syrup and ripe banana, they aren't overly sweet, especially with that little hit of turmeric and black pepper in the background.

They make a great breakfast, snack, or lunchbox addition.

    They are:

    • Gluten-free
    • Dairy-free
    • Naturally sweetened
    • Grain-free
    • Egg-free
    • Nut-free
    • Vegan
    • Vegetarian
    • Kid's allergy lunchbox friendly

Plus they are super easy to make, which is always a bonus.

How To Make Baked Banana Donuts

These are super easy to whip up.

To make your banana bread donuts you are going to need:

    • oats (if you are gluten-free then be sure to get gluten-free oats)
    • a ripe banana (the more ripe, the more sweet the outcome)
    • maple syrup
    • oat milk
    • vanilla
    • baking powder
    • turmeric
    • black pepper

I like to top mine with some flakes of unsweetened coconut flakes for simplicity, but if you want to fancy things up a bit then you can always whip up some Banana and Coconut Butter Frosting.

If you don't have a donut tin you can always use a muffin tin, although the recipe time might need to be adjusted.

If you would like a donut pan, because they are super fun, then you can usually find one in the baking aisle of your local kitchen store, or you can grab one online like this one:

Do I Have To Add The Black Pepper?

    Yes.

Adding black pepper activates the turmeric.

You can certainly make the donuts without adding the black pepper, you will still get that distinct color and flavor from the turmeric, however, you won't get the potential associated health benefits.

You won't taste the black pepper, I promise (if my 3 year old can't taste it you can be sure you won't either, it's just a pinch!).

If you don't have any ground turmeric you can easily find some at a health food store near you or online:

Make Sure You Grease The Tin.

Please make sure you grease the donut tin.

These donuts are very light and fluffy and will easily get stuck in the tin if it is not greased properly.

I use fractionated coconut oil to grease mine, but you can also use butter, olive oil or avocado oil depending on what you have on hand.

    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup oats
    • 2 tablespoon unsweetened shredded coconut plus extra for serving
    • 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
    • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
    • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
    • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup
    • half of a super ripe banana - mashed
    • ⅓ cup oat milk or other milk of your choosing
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • pinch of black pepper
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 300F (150C) and lightly grease a doughnut/donut tray (I use fractionated coconut oil)
    • Put the oats, coconut, baking powder, turmeric and salt into a food processeor and blitz until it resembles fine flour. Add to a large bowl
    • Add in the maple syrup, mashed banana, oat milk, vanilla and black pepper. Stir well to combine
    • Spoon the batter into the donut tray (there will be enough for 6 donuts)
    • Bake for 24 minutes, they should be firm to the touch
    • Allow to cool in the tray for 10 minutes, before removing and popping onto a cooling rack

    Notes

To make your own oat flour, just process the desired amount of whole oats in a food processor until it resembles a fine flour.
Make sure you grease the donut tin. These donuts are quite light and they will get stuck very easily.

I was scared to try these because the flavor doesn’t sound the most appetizing but these were excellent! Baby loved them and so did I. Thank you for the excellent recipe. I will be remixing these soon with other spices.

    Hello and welcome, I'm Donna!

I am so glad you are here!

Since I have a part-time job, 3 little kids, and a love of good food (as do you I assume), I have learned how to get the most out of the kitchen in the smallest amount of time.

Forget about hunting down weird ingredients and making trips to specialty shops.

We are going to make the most of what is available at the store and farmer's markets all whilst enjoying some delicious meals the whole family (hopefully...if you have fussy eaters I guarantee nothing) will enjoy.

Pop on that apron and let's get creative in the kitchen!
