A healthy hot chocolate loaded with all the superfoods needed to give your body a little boost. Unsweetened dark cacao, cinnamon, and turmeric combine with a tiny pinch of black pepper to help the body absorb the turmeric. It is creamy, frothy, and comforting; a hot chocolate that will make you feel good.

    Turmeric Infused Healthy Hot Chocolate

Ok so I totally made this Turmeric Infused Healthy Hot Chocolate resigned to the fact that there was no way the kids were going to drink it.

They have pretty sophisticated taste buds and will give pretty much anything a try, but this was a little far from the hot chocolate they had around the Holidays, and I was completely expecting a stand-off.

My 5yo took a sip, looked and me, and no joke said:

'ok mummy, I know you did something coz I can see you waiting to see if we will drink it, but it's delicious so I am going to drink it anyway. Don't tell me what you did to it until I am finished'.

TWO cups each later and she finally wanted the truth.

She guessed ginger which was pretty close!

She doesn't know what turmeric is, so she was pretty nonplussed when I told her...

    You will need:

    • milk of choice (i used unsweetened almond milk)
    • unsweetened raw cacao powder
    • pure maple syrup (erythritol and stevia for keto)
    • ground cinnamon
    • ground turmeric
    • pinch of black pepper

    That's it!

Use leftover ground turmeric in these turmeric shots next.

When Is The Best Time To Enjoy A Turmeric Infused Healthy Hot Chocolate?

Any time is a good time for hot chocolate.

Especially if it's a healthy hot chocolate!!

This drink is so comforting and so warming.

I have it on cold days, especially when I feel that familiar tickle in the back of my throat indicating an oncoming cough.

I also have it on warm days when I need something warm but I have already used up my allocated coffee quota for the day (which is happening faster and faster these days!)

It is only subtly sweet, and with the addition of the turmeric it actually takes on a slight savory undertone which I just love.

And hey, if a 3 and 5-year-old guzzle down 2 cups a piece when they have been promised a hot chocolate it has to be good, right!?!

Why Is Turmeric A Good Addition To A Healthy Hot Chocolate?

I could wax lyrical about the health benefits of turmeric, but I'll save that for another post.

Just know that I have been adding turmeric to EVERYTHING lately.

I have even managed to source some locally made fermented turmeric, and that has been making its way into my warm water every morning.

    It's amazing!!!

I make this turmeric-infused healthy hot chocolate on the stovetop, and once everything is warm and smooth I pop it into the blender for about a minute to give it that signature froth needed for a great hot chocolate.

If you do this just remember to pour it out of the blender as soon as it gets frothy and pop some hot soapy water in there or you could end up with a yellow tinge to the jug.

I do NOT want to be responsible for stained goods so do it ASAP ok??

    OK!

You could also froth your milk in the milk frother attachment of your coffee machine if you have one.

If you are in the market for a new blender, I have a Vitamix and absolutely swear by it. I have tried plenty of other blenders, and none give the level of smoothness I like, especially not when it comes to greens-based smoothies.

The obvious next step from being a hot chocolate hand model...

I had my doubts about this recipe because I often make golden milk and these spice levels seemed high, but it turned out great. The turmeric is a little strong but works with the cacao and cinnamon surprisingly well.

Best of all, this is an ideal drink to help with menstrual cycle or other inflammatory pain!

Nice recipe. Though, I find it disturbing that you tell your kids the names of the vegetables wrongly. They need to know the proper names of vegetables and what they are tasting.

I've been reading a lot about the benefits of turmeric. This seems like a very non-intimidating way to try it!

YES! If the kids love it I know I am not trying to convince myself it tastes good, as they are my harshest critics 🙂

I am so glad you are here!

Since I have a part-time job, 3 little kids, and a love of good food (as do you I assume), I have learned how to get the most out of the kitchen in the smallest amount of time.

Forget about hunting down weird ingredients and making trips to specialty shops.

We are going to make the most of what is available at the store and farmer's markets all whilst enjoying some delicious meals the whole family (hopefully...if you have fussy eaters I guarantee nothing) will enjoy.

Pop on that apron and let's get creative in the kitchen!
