    Berry Basil Infused Water

Basil infused water makes a fantastic natural body cleanse drink that is great for keeping you hydrated throughout the day.

It is easy to make and keeps well in the fridge so can be made ahead of time.

Drinking more water can help flush all of the nasties out, so you could be left feeling less sluggish and with more of a pep in your step.

For the best-flavored water, all you need is:

    • filtered water
    • fresh fruits, here we are going to use hulled and sliced strawberries and blueberries
    • basil

    That's it.

I told you it was easy.

Just pop all the ingredients into a glass jar or pitcher, give the fruit a bit of a muddle to release the natural flavors, and pop the water into the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight to make it perfect.

    I Don't Like Water. Will I Like Fruit-Flavoured Water?

I know there are lots of people out there that really don't like drinking water.

I am not one of them.

Personally, I love water and find nothing more refreshing than a nice glass of warm water with a squeeze of lemon first thing in the morning or a big glass of cold water during the day.

I mean I could really benefit from drinking more water and less coffee, but I am only human....and I have 3 kids.

    Priorities.

For those of you struggling to drink enough water because you don't like it, trying some fruit-infused water recipes like this basil and berry-infused water might be a really good move for you.

Fruit-flavored water gives you a nice burst of freshness, which encourages you to consume more.

It's more fun, so you are more likely to satisfy those parts of the brain that tend to encourage you to drink more sugary drinks.

Plus you get the added benefit of some fruit. Especially if you nibble on the fruit after the water has finished infusing.

    Win.

Tips For Making The Best Infused Water

The beauty of infused water is that it is super simple.

There are some tips you should follow to make sure you end up with the best flavored water though:

    • Make sure your fruit is fresh. Fruit that is about to turn can give your water a funny flavor
    • Make sure the fruit is well washed and any dirt or debris has been removed before adding it to the water
    • Gently smash the blueberries in the water, we want to release the flavor of the blueberry, not have little bits floating all over the place
    • If you don't plan on drinking the water straight away then you should remove the fruit after letting it sit for a few hours/overnight. If you leave the fruit in there you may end up with a bitter taste to the water.

Invest In A Fruit Infuser Water Bottle

You can make a big pitcher and sip throughout the day, or simply make up a small batch to enjoy.

If you want to keep the fruit separate from the water then you might want to invest in a fruit infuser water bottle. There are plenty on the market to choose from based on your needs. I like this one because it is super easy to clean and there is nothing that annoys me more than something I buy to make life easier that ends up taking forever to clean!

If you want to make a bigger batch and still keep the fruit separate so you dont get bits (which becomes especially helpful if you are using herbs), then you might want to go big and invest in a fruit infused water pitcher.

Need Some More Infused Water Ideas?

The sky is the limit when it comes to creating your own healthy water flavorings.

Some great infused water combinations that work include:

    • Minty Orange Water
    • Blueberry and Basil
    • Strawberry and Mint
    • Orange and Basil
    • Cucumber and Mint
    • Fennel and Mint

    You really can't go wrong.

This is *exactly* what I need this time of year. Infused waters are so so cleansing! And after all of the holiday goodies, a good clean beverage is a must. Haha. Love the addition of basil!

My toddler is totally anti-drinking water and I've been looking for ways to get him to drink it. He adores strawberries and I know he would love this! The flavor from the berries and the basil plus the pop of color. Genius, thank you!

I always enjoy infused water, but (barring a bit of lemon) I rarely make it myself. Strawberry and basil is such a lovely combination, and the addition of blueberry is wonderful too. I'll have to remember this when it's blueberry season around where I live, as we're surrounded by their farms. Cheers!

I've definitely struggled to drink enough water, but this is a great way to infuse some healthy flavor and maybe a few vitamins too, into what should be a daily routine. It's amazing how much more quenching the water is when you add fresh herbs and fruit to it, and I really appreciate the variety of combinations you've shared. This is the kind of cleanse I know I can do.

A great idea for getting me to drink more water. I enjoy my cold water during the summer when it's hot. In the winter I have a tendency to forget staying hydrated. Adding some berries and basil would certainly make me eager to keep my water handy. And I LOVE the scent and taste of basil! Can't wait to make some infused water today.

I know the importance of drinking water on a daily basis, yet I struggle to do it. I do have an infuser bottle. I need to give this a try and see if it helps. Plain water is just that...plain. No wonder I don't drink much of it.
