When the weather gets hot what better way is there to cool down than with a nice, cold, iced Tea.

Add some nectarine and mint and it gets even better.

    You are going to need:

    • cold water
    • organic green tea
    • nectarines
    • lemon juice
    • mint
    • maple syrup
    • Ice for serving

    That's it!

loose leaf green tea leaves in a white bowl
Look for loose leaf tea to avoid potential plastics which can be found in teabags.

    Why Cold Brew Tea?

Without going into too much detail, cold brewing tea, much like cold brewing coffee, takes away the bitterness and acidity that can come from tea.

This is espeically so in this case where we are using green tea.

You are left with a much more smooth and pleasant taste that does not require much in the way of sweetener.

How To Make Cold Brew Tea

Don't worry, it couldn't be more simple.

Cold brewing tea is actually a lot quicker than cold brewing coffee.

For this version we are going to:

    • place green tea bags or loose leaf tea (I keep mine in a cheesecloth or tea strainer to keep it all together) into a large pitcher, fill with cold water and allow to steep in the fridge overnight
    • take some ripe nectarines and chop them into even-sized slices
    • add the nectarine slices and lemon to the brewed tea
    • add in some fresh mint and maple syrup, blitz in the blender until everything is well combined and there are no 'bits' floating around, and hey presto you have a refreshing drink ready to be served over ice with a slice of lemon.

    No nasties needed!

Cold Brew Iced Nectarine and Mint Green Tea Recipe

A Note On Ingredients: Tips, Tricks, and Substitutions

This is a very versatile recipe and ingredients can easily be substituted for what you have on hand.

    Organic Green Tea

Not all teas are created equally.

Look for a good quality green tea, preferably loose leaf to avoid potential plastics used in teabags.

My preferred organic tea comes from T2.

If you do not have green tea then black tea can be used instead. However please note the colour will not be as pretty.

    Nectarines

Any stone fruit or berry can be used in place of the nectarine.

    Try:

    • peaches
    • cherries
    • strawberries
    • blueberries
    • blackberries

Please note, changing the fruit will change the colour of the drink.

    Maple Syrup

Look for pure maple syrup, not maple flavoured syrup.

If you prefer a sweeter iced tea then add more maple syrup to your liking.

If you prefer, the maple syrup can be subbed out and replaced with honey instead.

Up close shot of pineapple chia water served in a small glass with chunks of pineapple, and a wedge of lime on the side
Try this Pineapple Agua Fresca next!

Need More Summer Drinks For Cooling Down In The Heat?

    Try these out:

    • Blackberry and Basil Iced Green Tea
    • Fresh Peach and Honey Lemonade
    • Watermelon Lemonade with Hone
    • Chia Lime and Ginger Pineapple Agua Fresca
    • Hydrating Lime Chia Fresca

    Happy Drinking

    xx

    Ingredients

    • 4 cups cold water
    • 4 bags organic green tea (or 4 teaspoon loose leaf tea - see notes)
    • 2 ripe nectarines chopped into chunks
    • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 10 leaves mint plus extra for serving
    • 2 teaspoon maple syrup
    • Ice for serving
Prevent your screen from going dark

    Instructions

    • Pop the teabags and the water into a large container with a lid and pop in the fridge (or leave on the counter) for at least 3 hours (see notes if using loose leaf tea). I usually just pop it in the fridge overnight
4 cups cold water, 4 bags organic green tea
    • Once steeped, remove the teabags and pop the green tea, nectarines, lemon juice, mint leaves and maple syrup into a blender. Blend until the drink is smooth, and there are no chunks of nectarine floating around
2 ripe nectarines, 2 tablespoon lemon juice, 10 leaves mint, 2 teaspoon maple syrup
    • Fill a glass with ice and pour in the iced tea.
      Ice
    • Top with some mint and enjoy

    Notes

Look for loose lead tea to avoid potential plastics which can be found in teabags.
You can steep the loose leaf tea in the pitcher overnight as is, simply strain before combining with the other ingredients and blending.
Alternatively, use a tea straining ball or some cheesecloth to keep the tea leaves contained while soaking.

Even though I am not that fan of green tea, your idea of blending it with nectrarines sounds PERFECT! In fact, nectarines are now in season and so-so-so cheap. Thanks for sharing <3

Very welcome Krystallia! My husband is not a fan of green tea either (unless in a chinese restaurant, where it suddenly becomes his favourite thing?) but he actually really likes this one - the nectarines pack such a punch of flavour, that it kinda masks the green tea flavour, but you still get all the benefits 🙂

Oh yes, it is super easy to cold brew it - and makes things like green tea so much better, as you don't get that bitterness!
