I just had to pull this back to school snacks round-up from the archives. Now that I have a preschooler myself, I understand even more the importance of having great snacks on hand for hungry little bellies (seriously, do they ever stop eating???)

What better time to start cleaning up your families diet and add some ‘made from scratch’ items into the lunchbox? Even if  you can only manage one from scratch item a week –  every little bit helps! I have some great recipes to inspire you here in the Back to School Snacks Recipe Round Up #1.

Note: whilst I don’t tend to use refined sugar in my everyday cooking, I have included a few GREAT recipes here that do. It’s only a wee bit, and I am totally of the opinion that something made at home using a little bit of refined sugar, is going to be way way better for you than any of the packaged stuff you can get at the store. You can always swap out for some coconut sugar if you are so inclined!

So, here we go:

These little Blueberry Breakfast Bites from A Virtual Vegan will make a great start to the day for your little ones! They are vegan, naturally sweetened, and full of all the good stuff! Easily transportable to boot!

These Pumpkin Breakfast Cookies, sweetened only with honey, would make a great grab-and-go option for those mornings when you don’t all have time for a sit down together! From LeelaLicious.

Or how about some Grab n Go Chai Breakfast Biscuits from Bam’s Kitchen to mix it up.

These amazing White Chocolate and Cranberry Scones use yoghurt to make them super moist and a bit healthier. From Plating pixels.

Or if you like to prep in advance, make up some Apple Quinoa Breakfast Pots in cute little mason jars and be ready for the week ahead!

Here are some great Blueberry Oat Muffins from Dinner at the Zoo. Bonus: there are even some make ahead instructions provided on there for you.

Blueberry Oat Muffins

These little Apple Carrot and Ginger Mini Muffins have been a huge hit with my kids. I have even sent them in for preschool snack a couple of times, and they always get gobbled up. Freezer friendly too which is always a bonus!

Apple Carrot and Ginger Mini Miuffins

Fa’s Kitchen shared this recipe for a great little Homemade Chewy Granola Bar packed with dried fruits, nuts and oats. Plenty of energy to get the kiddies through the day.

These Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with Chocolate Chips from Girl Gone Gourmet sound great as a little treat to add to their lunch box!

I LOVE these Banana Nut Granola Bars from Athletic Avocado! Full of great ingredients. And they look pretty amazing. My kids have been loving them! I have been making big batches and freezing for the weeks ahead.

Banana Nut Granola Bars

These Double Chocolate Date Bites are a great little snack, and so easy to pack up for school lunches. I know my little one loves them when we make them as a snack for the park. From Vanilla and Bean.

These Peach and Blueberry Pie Bars from Whole Food Bellies (that’s me 🙂 ) make a great after school snack with a glass of milk. Full of quick and easy to make homemade preserves and whole wheat goodness.

This Bombay Veggie Grilled Cheese Sandwich from Cook With Manali looks amazing, and would be a great alternative to your plain old cheese sandwich 🙂

How about using some of this Garlic Kale Hummus from Strength and Sunshine as a spread in your little one’s sandwich? Or as a base in some homemade mini pizzas! Great way to get in some extra greens.

Or try this Healthy Butternut Squash Dip with a side of chopped veggies from A Side of Sweet – I am thinking some carrot and celery sticks would be perfect.

For something a bit different from the normal sandwich, why don’t you try some of my Broccoli and Feta Fritters. This is another one where I make a big batch and freeze – this is a great way to meal prep and definitely takes some of the hassle out of deciding what to send with them.

These Homemade Taquitos from Homemade Food Junkie would be a great alternative to a sandwich for those days when you want to mix it up a bit! I made a vegetarian version of these for my husband’s lunch the other day, and to say he was terribly excited would be an understatement 🙂

Do you have any favorite back to school snacks you like to include in your kid’s lunchbox? I would love to hear about them! Be sure to check out the second installment of my back to school snacks round ups for even more inspiration 🙂 Have a great week.

What a great roundup! And I loved what you said about even making just one lunch a week from scratch…changes don’t always have to be made all at once in one big sweeping movement but can be made one small change at a time
